Si tot el: „Dozajul politicii monetare presupune o alchimie (...)”.
Cei mari, insa, au trecut deja la nivelul urmator: politica monetara a progresat si a devenit stiinta, doar politica fiscala a ramas la stadiul de alchimie: „Monetary policy decisions tend to be based on systematic analysis of alternative policy choices and their associated macroeconomic impacts: this is science. Fiscal policy choices, in contrast, spring from unsystematic speculation, grounded more in politics than economics: this is alchemy”. Concluzia? Mai multa putere bancilor centrale, „independente”, „neutre politic”, detinatoare de „instrumente stiintifice”: „Although major changes to fiscal institutions that would contribute to anchoring fiscal expectations and to making fiscal policy scientific are obviously beyond the purview of central banks, there is much that central banks and their leaders can do to move fiscal policy closer to the science that it could be”.
Pana una alta, indivizii din lumea reala incearca sa supravietuiasca in creuzetul planificatorilor elaborand antidoturi. In the alchemical view, Christianity has saved man, but not nature. The alchemist’s dream was to save the world in its totality: the philosopher’s stone was conceived as the filius macrocosmi, which saves the world, whereas Christ was the filius microcosmi, the savior of man alone”.
